Audra and I felt God calling us to start our own Non-for profit in 2016. Our previous experience working in the non-profit world showed us that we have been blessed with the ability to connect people to practical resources. The personal connection to this community, my brother Scott who is a Chicago police officer, made God’s call very clear that The Well needed to be formed.
Our vision for The Well is to build a trusted safe space for First Responders and their families. We want to create a model that not only will impact other first responder communities in Chicago but that we can duplicate this model in any first responder community in the world. We want to see our center on the northwest side help first responders and their families receive mental, relational, physical and spiritual resources that can empower them to see transformation in their own lives. We want The Well to be a place they can go for community and not a hot line they can call. For a group of people that are often isolated and forced to deal with difficult issues on their own, we want to be able to offer 24/7 community.
I LOVE seeing transformation happen. I have countless stories of a first responder or a family member coming to The Well completely broken and I have gotten a first-row seat to seeing them find healing. I love the stories I get to hear (sometimes difficult stories) of how this community of heroes help each other. I love seeing The Well family prove someone wrong when they think they are alone in this world.
